Community Consultation: Experiences of Autistic individuals engaging with needs assessments

This expression of interest is to join a focus group or other activities of your choice, such as a 1:1 interview or video submission, for autistic individuals, parents/carers, and supporters.

We want to hear about your experiences with needs assessments (e.g., Functional Capacity, Autism Diagnostic Assessment, Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy assessment).

Who can participate in our community consultation?

You can participate if you:

Are aged 18 years or older
Live in South Australia
Autistic individuals (including those who self-identify)
A Parents, carers, and/or supporters of individuals who engaged with a needs assessment
Anyone with experience of a needs-based assessment (e.g. functional capacity, Autism assessment, therapy assessments)

We strongly encourage expressions of interest from people who:

Identify as disabled/ a person with disability
Are from CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) communities
Are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
Are LGBTQIA+
Live in rural or remote communities (if you can meet online or in-person in Adelaide)
Have co-occurring conditions
Are non-speaking and/or use AAC

Why are we doing this project with an advisory group?

This focus group is to inform the Office for Autism about the experience of receiving a needs assessment.
The information you share with us will help inform what support needs assessments might look like in the future.

Honorarium

Participants who take part in a voluntary consultation activity will be offered a gift card honorarium of between $20 and $150, depending on the activity.
